Warriors make a huge move

In the Women’s Premier League match today, UP Warriorz defeated Gujarat Giants with ease thanks to a brilliant fifty from Grace Harris, who helped them overcome a slow pitch.

Warriorz’s second victory of the competition came from a chase of 143 in 15.4 overs, led by Harris (60 not out off 33 balls) and captain Alyssa Healy (33 off 21 balls).

After left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone (3/20) took advantage of a difficult surface, Giants were reduced to 142/5.

After losing captain Beth Mooney, Gujarat got off to a great start in their innings with Lara Wolvaardt’s (28 off 26 balls) assistance in reaching 41.

However, the Giants entered a state of slumber when the powerplay expired, going 23 balls without a boundary. Wolvaardt’s ejection did nothing to improve the situation either.

To give their total a modicum of respectability, Phoebe Litchfield (35 off 26 balls) and Asheligh Gardner (30 off 17 balls) had to put up a robust 52-run partnership.

Brief scores: UP Warriorz: 143/4 in 15.4 overs (Harris 60*, Healy 33; Kanwar 2/23); Gujarat Giants: 142/5 in 20 overs (Litchfield 35, Gardner 30; Ecclestone 3/20).

A little adjustment and Shafali is in a good place mentally

Bengaluru: In the last year, big-hitting batter Shafali Verma believes she has made little changes to her game plan that have helped her turn strong starts into significant knocks in the current Women’s Premier League. Verma scored fifty runs and forged an 82-run partnership with Alice Capsey (46), helping Delhi Capitals overcome Royal Challengers Bangalore by twenty-five runs on Thursday night. “I was leaving the WPL in my 30s or 40s the last time I was there.” Those hits gave me a lot of wisdom. I believe that’s why I now want to turn a thirty or forty into a fifty,” Verma said. “My mindset has changed slightly, which is the main change.”
