<p>Union Minister Prahlad Joshi said on Wednesday that the coal ministry is prepared to meet the electricity sector’s demand for 874 million tonnes of coal in the 2024–2025 fiscal year. On the occasion of the publication of the booklet “PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan in Coal Sector,” Joshi informed PTI that the Power Ministry has set a need of 821 million tonnes for the fiscal year ending on March 31. The requirement from their ministry (power) has been fulfilled. The Minister said that 821 million tons, which they had requested, had been provided.</p>

<p>“The Power Ministry has requested 874 million tonnes of coal for FY25.” We shall also comply with this regulation. By this March, we will have produced one billion tons of coal,” he said. According to Joshi, the proportion of imported coal used for blending has decreased this fiscal year over previous.</p>
<p>According to him, the amount of coal imported for blending was about 22.20 million tonnes in FY24 and 30.80 million tonnes in the fiscal year 2022–2023. According to Joshi, in only one year, the decrease in coal imports resulted in savings of Rs 82,264 crores.</p>
<p>By 2026, the government also hopes to have “zero” coal imports. According to Joshi, the Ministry of Railways and the Coal Ministry are in communication over the availability of rakes. According to the minister, there are now 392 rakes available on average per day for the transportation of coal, up from 369 rakes per day during the previous fiscal year.</p>
<p>According to him, rake availability will increase this year as well. Joshi said that “it will ensure seamless utilisation of information on PM Gati Shakti projects” upon the booklet’s distribution. It contains details on several initiatives and issues that need quick resolution. He said that there are two more programs to find land for development and provide investors information about possible coal blocks, which would improve investments in coal mining projects and simplify land usage.</p>
